Our Engineering team at our Dundalk facility are seeking a highly skilled Life Safety Systems Engineer (2yr FTC) to join our team in Ireland. The successful candidate will lead all elements of developing, delivering and sustaining “best in class” Life safety systems in a state-of-the-Art live virus drug substance and drug product manufacturing facility. They will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of life safety systems across our pharmaceutical manufacturing and research sites. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards to protect personnel, assets, and the environment. The role also includes emergency management programme readiness, training delivery, and support for emergency response operations.

Bring energy, knowledge, innovation to carry out the following:

  • Design, install, commission, and maintain life safety systems including fire detection, fire alarm, emergency lighting, gas detection, and suppression systems.
  • Ensure the readiness of the site’s emergency management programme, fire detection/protection systems, and other emergency response facilities in line with Company and regulatory directives and requirements.
  • Ensure site compliance with national fire legislative requirements and fire and emergency standards (e.g., SN-34, SN-05) and local, national and international codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IEC, EN standards).
  • Prepare and support the Emergency Response Team (ERT), site control, and Emergency Control Centre (ECC) operations to respond effectively to emergency situations through on-site and off-site training and exercises.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes for on-site Emergency Response Team members.
  • Prepare an annual scenario-based emergency training programme, including writing realistic scenarios, collaborating with external training providers, coordinating on-site activities during exercises, and preparing action plans and lessons learned reports.
  • Provide fire systems and emergency management support to both small and large project teams, ensuring integration of life safety requirements.
  • Provide expert technical advice on fire detection, protection, and emergency response systems and strategies.
  • Support the site in maintaining a robust security posture to protect business assets, resources, and information through oversight and collaboration with security teams.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses related to life safety and emergency response systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including EHS, Facilities, Quality, and Operations to integrate life safety requirements into facility design and operations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation such as system specifications, validation protocols, maintenance procedures, and compliance reports.
  • Lead or support validation and qualification activities for life safety systems in accordance with GMP and regulatory expectations.
  • Manage service providers and contractors to ensure timely and compliant maintenance and testing of life safety systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to site personnel on life safety systems and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in incident investigations and recommend corrective actions related to life safety system failures or alarms.

What skills you will need:

In order to excel in this role, you will more than likely have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in life safety systems engineering, preferably within pharmaceutical, biotech, or highly regulated manufacturing cleanroom environments environments.
  • Strong knowledge of fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, gas detection, and suppression technologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as NFPA, IEC 61508/61511, EN54, OSHA, and local fire codes.
  • Experience with system validation and qualification in GMP environments is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or similar design software and MS Office suite.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Certification in Fire Protection Engineering or related professional certifications (e.g., CFPS, PE).
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and integration of life safety systems.
