Role Overview
Join our Observability team as a Platform Engineer and take a central role in shaping our company's Observability foundation. You will be responsible for building, managing, and scaling our critical observability platform, powered by Grafana Cloud. Grafana is critical fully self-service platform, providing essential monitoring, logging, and tracing capabilities that provides ability to understand performance and increase reliability of our products and services.
This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you will act as both a builder and an enabler. You will leverage cutting-edge technologies to automate infrastructure, testing, and deployments. A key part of your mission will be to partner directly with our internal engineering teams—your customers—to understand their needs, troubleshoot challenges, and empower them to adopt and master observability best practices.
What will you do in this role
- Design, develop, and maintain our Grafana Cloud environment and its integrations using clean, modular Terraform code.
- Own and enhance our CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to ensure smooth, reliable, and rapid deployment of platform changes.
- Write and maintain a robust suite of functional tests using Robot Framework to validate new features and prevent regressions.
- Document all platform features, architectural decisions, and operational procedures within our company's SDLC framework.
- Act as a primary point of contact for our internal engineering teams. You will provide expert guidance, troubleshoot implementation issues, and help them master our observability tools.
- Act as experts on OpenTelemetry and eBPF technologies to promote future oriented standardization of telemetry collection.
What should you have
- 3+ years of proven experience managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform. You should be comfortable writing clean, modular, and maintainable code.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, specifically with GitHub Actions.
- Ability to manage Kubernetes deployments, especially in AWS EKS
- Solid understanding of telemetry collection (metrics, logs, and traces) using OpenTelemetry or eBPF instrumentation. Practical experience with Grafana or Grafana Cloud is a significant plus.
- Deep familiarity with GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and constructive code reviews.
- You are a natural troubleshooter who can systematically diagnose complex technical issues across different layers of the stack.
- Excellent communication skills and a genuine desire to help others. You must be comfortable explaining complex topics to a technical audience and have experience supporting or consulting with other engineering teams.
- Ability to work in Agile environment in sprints. Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence is a plus
However, we will be happy if you also have:
- Deep expertise with the OpenTelemetry standard (OTel) and its practical application for instrumenting applications.
- Knowledge of or a strong interest in eBPF for kernel-level instrumentation and performance analysis.
- Experience writing automated tests, particularly with Robot Framework or a similar acceptance testing framework (e.g., Cypress, Playwright).
- Proficiency in a scripting language like Python, Go, or Bash for creating automation and tooling.
- You understand that good documentation is a critical feature and are diligent in creating clear guides. You thrive in a collaborative environment, actively share knowledge, and are open to feedback.
