Role Overview
We are seeking a Specialist Platform Engineer – BPM Platforms (Appian) to join our HAI Platforms group within the Digital Foundation division under the CTO Organization.
In this role, you will:
•Contribute as a BPM / Appian engineer supporting the design, development, deployment, and operations of BPM solutions.
•Apply modern DevOps and CI/CD practices to enable reliable, repeatable delivery of BPM solutions on cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS).
•Collaborate closely with architects, product teams, operations, and other platform engineers to deliver robust, scalable, and secure BPM capabilities.
•Develop platform features to high engineering standards, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and automation.
This is a hands-on engineering role with opportunities to grow your technical depth, contribute to platform standards and best practices, and help evolve BPM capabilities across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
BPM / Appian Engineering
•Design, develop, and maintain BPM applications using the Appian platform, including process models, records, interfaces, data models, Data Fabric and integrations.
•Follow established Appian setup/configuration and design standards; contribute ideas for optimization and reusable components.
•Implement business process models and workflows following BPMN concepts, ensuring alignment with business requirements and compliance guidelines.
•Help build reference implementations and reusable components to standardize common patterns across teams.
2. Integration & Architecture
•Implement integrations between Appian and other enterprise systems using RESTful APIs, SOAP services patterns.
•Work with solution and enterprise architects to understand end-to-end solution designs and implement your part according to standards.
•Collaborate with data teams to model and manage data used by BPM applications (Appian data types, SQL databases, external data sources)
3. Cloud, Infrastructure & DevOps
•Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, or similar) to automate build, test, deployment, and release processes.
•Apply DevOps principles to improve reliability and observability of the BPM platform (monitoring, logging, alerting).
•Leverage core AWS services in implementation work, including:
•Compute: EC2, ECS, Lambda (exposure to EKS is a plus)
•Networking: VPC, ALB/NLB, Route 53
•Storage: S3, EBS, EFS
•Security: IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager
4. Platform Operations & Governance
•Support and troubleshoot issues across environments (dev/test/prod), helping to maintain high availability and performance of BPM applications.
•Work with operations and security teams to follow enterprise standards, including Zero Trust, IAM roles, IP whitelisting, and other security controls.
•Follow and help refine development standards, coding guidelines, branching strategies, and deployment practices for BPM solutions.
5. Collaboration, Enablement & Best Practices
•Work with business stakeholders and product owners to understand requirements and translate them into Appian designs with guidance as needed.
•Help socialize BPM concepts and demonstrate the capabilities of the Appian platform to business and IT stakeholders (demos, show-and-tells, knowledge-sharing).
•Contribute to documentation of solutions, standards, architecture decisions, and runbooks to support ongoing operations and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications Required
