Job Description

Under the direction of the Global Data Operations (GDOs) leadership, the GDO Operations Manager is responsible for leading clinical data operations staff in operations tasks, both strategic and tactical in nature, within a Data Management Center (DMC). Ensures consistent execution of quality global procedures and deliverables. Manages workload and development of their direct staff. Encourages effective interaction of DMC staff with business partners to achieve common objectives.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct Line Management of Clinical Data Operations Staff:

    • Develops career plans

    • Makes work assignments

    • Conducts periodic skill assessments

    • Annual performance appraisals

    • Coaches and provides ongoing feedback for performance

    • Provides rewards and recognition

    • Sets priorities

    • Provides developmental opportunities

    • Manages training compliance

  • Escalates to appropriate leadership/management as needed as risks and needs arise in the business

  • Increases functional effectiveness by supporting departmental efforts to simplify and standardize procedures to the greatest extent possible, sharing best practices and leading continuous improvement efforts.

  • Participates in or Leads GDO Business Excellence Networks (BENs) such as Quality & Knowledge, Capacity planning & metrics, within other. Support GDO improvement efforts, SME networks, beyond GDO special initiatives as needed (e.g. cross-divisional projects, cross-industry initiatives, etc.).

  • Conducts management and functional area meetings, contributing expertise, when necessary, through formal or informal presentations.

  • Keeps abreast of process and technology changes both within and outside of the company that may impact staff.

  • May participate in initiatives beyond their department (e.g. cross-functional, cross-divisional projects, cross-industry initiatives, etc.).

  • May support any other project or perform any other data management task deemed appropriate by management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, life sciences or related subjects preferred.

  • At least 5-year experience in data management

  • At least 2-year experience managing people and/or leading teams.

  • Demonstrated project management, decision making and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to delegate and empower others; identifying and leveraging opportunities to accelerate results.

  • Ability to build partnerships; developing and leveraging relationships within and across work groups to achieve results.

  • Ability to coach and develop others; providing feedback, instruction and development guidance to help others success in their current or future job responsibilities.

  • Able to work under pressure in a changing environment with flexibility.

  • Advanced English: ability to communicate with both the technical and business areas and speak-up with courage and candor.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office
