Job Description

Our GWES organization is seeking a Manager, Instrumentation and SAP (M1 level) to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for the Rahway site’s instrumentation, support SAP PM systems supporting utilities and facilities infrastructure, and a manage automation and planning roles within GWES. This role covers the entire site’s facilities instrumentation portfolio and includes planning/design, operations support and planner group management. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on industrial instrumentation design, installation, and troubleshooting/testing experience.

Scope & Impact

  • Senior individual contributor and manager who leads cross-functional initiatives, manages and mentors peers, and serves as the instrumentation SME for site maintenance and complex projects.

  • Direct impact on:

    • Site-wide utilities reliability

    • Site-wide CMMS (SAP PM) reliability, data quality, and continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities

Instrumentation / Automation Responsibilities

  • Provide instrumentation and automation planning and design support, including specification and procurement of new, replacement, and upgrade instrumentation.

  • Partner with site instrument technicians and automation engineers to troubleshoot complex issues; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions to improve reliability, safety, and energy performance.

  • Lead or support instrumentation and automation projects as the SME from concept through commissioning, including requirements definition, design review, vendor/integrator coordination, integration, and startup for utilities and facilities equipment.

  • Manage GWES automation technicians and planners

  • Collaborate closely with GWES operations, maintenance, EHS, and IT to ensure instrumentation and SAP solutions support uptime, safety, sustainability, and efficiency objectives.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardization, spare parts strategies, reliability, and performance.

  • Support capital projects, including design review, installation, and commissioning of new utilities and facilities equipment.

SAP / CMMS Responsibilities

  • Provide site instrumentation support in SAP PM, including:

    • Task List creation and maintenance

    • Test equipment definition and management

    • SAP equipment labeling

    • Support for GMP audits related to maintenance and calibration data

  • Improve and maintain equipment master data in the CMMS, including specifications, thresholds, and tolerances.

  • Manage calibration of certified test instruments; initiate Quality Notifications if out-of-calibration test instruments were used for calibration PMs.

  • Manage the PRT re-certification program and associated Quality Notification process.

  • Create and maintain SAP data records for equipment (e.g., Task Lists, PMs, equipment records, labels).

  • Deliver instructor-led SAP training to new or reassigned employees and contractors, and provide “hyper-care” support post-training.

  • Provide ongoing SAP user support for Rahway site employees (navigation, log-in issues, variant creation, and general troubleshooting).

Required Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent. Vocation or technical school certification, or associates or bachelor’s degree in applicable field.

  • Approximately 10+ years of hands-on experience with demonstrated leadership of complex utilities instrumentation and automation projects (M1 level).

  • Experience working within a CMMS (preferably SAP PM) to:

    • Create and maintain Task Lists

    • Create equipment entries and BOMs

    • Track work orders

    • Enter and track calibrations and test equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, single-line electrical diagrams, control panel drawings, and instrument datasheets; experience with commissioning and loop checks.

  • Solid understanding of utilities equipment and systems, such as:

    • Boilers and steam distribution

    • Chilled water systems

    • HVAC/BMS

    • Compressed air

    • Electrical power distribution

    • Environmental monitoring systems

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing technical teams

  • Experience with VFDs, drives, safety PLCs, and functional safety concepts (e.g., SIL assessments for utilities applications).

  • Project management experience, including oversight of vendors and system integrators.

  • Exposure to energy management and reliability engineering (e.g., KPIs, CMMS integration, condition monitoring).

Work Environment & Conditions

  • On-site role at Rahway, NJ within GWES in a facilities and utilities environment, with adherence to all EHS requirements.

  • Occasional off-hours or weekend support may be required for critical utilities operations, shutdowns, or commissioning activities.

  • Ability to access mechanical rooms, powerhouse areas, industrial equipment spaces, and outdoor locations; may require climbing ladders and the use of PPE.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The salary range for this role is

$106,200.00 - $167,200.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
