Scientist Monoclonal Antibody Process Development

Welcome in our team

The Centre of Excellence for Monoclonal Antibodies (CoE mAb) is part of the Bioprocess Technology Solutions department within Animal Health. We provide global support across monoclonal antibody programs by capturing, developing and sharing mAb-specific process knowledge.

The team partners closely with Manufacturing and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs) to support drug substance (DS) and drug product (DP) activities, including development, scale-up, technology transfer, commercial production, troubleshooting and process qualification. In doing so, we play a critical role in enabling robust, continuous manufacturing and the timely registration of Animal Health vaccines and biologics worldwide.

To support this, the CoE mAb has dedicated laboratory facilities in Boxmeer for experimental work and process innovation.

About the role

As a Scientist you will design, plan and execute cell culture experiments in bioreactors (upstream processing, USP), as well as monoclonal antibody (mAb) purification (downstream processing, DSP) and formulation laboratory activities. This includes taking on basic project leadership responsibilities.

The role focuses on the development of new mAb products, the improvement of existing products and the resolution of production-related challenges within our facilities or at CDMOs. All activities are performed in accordance with established instructions and general guidelines, ensuring compliance with safety standards and GLP/GMP requirements, while demonstrating initiative and sound scientific judgment where appropriate.

Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Design, plan and execute laboratory experiments (USP, DSP and formulation based on QbD) in alignment with project goals and guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with project leads and cross-functional teams to define study designs and coordinate supporting activities.
  • Analyze, interpret and document experimental results; share insights and contribute to data-driven decision-making.
  • Identify deviations, investigate root causes and recommend improvements to processes, methods or study designs.
  • Prepare clear and concise technical documentation (e.g., protocols, reports and memos) in English.
  • Perform activities in compliance with GxP, safety (EHS) and quality standards, including support for pilot and production-scale work.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by proposing and implementing new methods, technologies or workflows.
  • Support team and departmental objectives, including equipment lifecycle management, onboarding/training and participation or leadership in small projects.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biotechnology, bioprocess technology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Relevant hands-on industry experience in mAb process development, with preferably 5 years working with bioreactors and/or purification and formulation.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory setup, operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience with GxP guidelines and compliant ways of working.
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Process Sciences (MPS) methods and practices.
